A Journey Just BegunAs of the end of Spring 2007, two classes of students have completed Vashon College’s inaugural course, Vashon 101: A Journey Just Begun. Vashon 101 is an eleven week multi-disciplinary survey course covering Vashon Island’s natural history, human history, and contemporary characteristics. It is preceded by an optional, narrated boat trip circumnavigating Vashon Island. Vashon 101 is the first offering in an intended series of core courses about Vashon Island that are designed to appeal to adult islanders who are full or part-time residents.
Adjunct faculty and staff volunteered their time to develop and present the first class of Vashon 101, and a beta test group of thirty-nine students took the course in Fall 2006. The student evaluations gave high marks to the faculty and course content, and with slight modifications based on student suggestions, Vashon 101 was offered again in Spring 2007 to a full class of enthusiastic students. Beginning with Fall 2007, enrollment in Vashon 101 will be available once per year during the Fall at a cost of $250 per student. To apply for the Fall session, complete the Vashon_101_Application and mail to: Vashon College 18850 103rd Avenue SW – Suite 101 Vashon, Washington 98070
