Vashon College at Strawberry Festival

Visit the Vashon College Booth in Ober Park
Courtesy of Puget Sound Energy, Vashon College will feature its summer programs in the shared booth at Ober Park.

First up is the chance to register for our headliner week-long course, Undersea Video Adventure.  Two sessions are offered:  August 6-10 and August 13-17.   Not your typical summer school class, nature lovers as well as computer enthusiasts will have access to state of the art, underwater video, high definition camera equipment and digital editing computers, and students can document Vashon’s underwater shore including the Maury Island Marine Reserve.  No diving is required since veteran marine naturalist and diver, Karlista Rickerson, will lead the way.  How have underwater plants and animals in the area changed since she began to dive here twenty years ago?  Come see for yourself!

Vashon Reads & Leads Activities related to our summer-long community book program will also be highlighted.  Of note:  Sales of the book, Field Notes from a Catastrophe:  Man, Nature, and Climate Change; Sign-ups for book discussion potlucks; and special deals for Vashon residents eager to join the island-wide Light Bulb Change-out Challenge.

What do M.I.T. and Vashon College have in common?  We both now own a precision cutting, OMAX machine – only ours is better!  Anyone looking for a quick and highly precise method of cutting metal or stone should stop by the booth for more information.    Registrations for instruction on the OMAX machine will be taken, first -come, first-served.
