Part 1--IntroductionMonday Evenings, September 15 – October 13 Five Sessions, 7:00 – 9:00 pm Vashon College, Sheffield Building, Upstairs Classroom Bruce Haulman takes the lead along with guest faculty to cover the fundamentals of taking oral and video histories. From research techniques, to interviewing methods, to practical aspects of using audio and video equipment, students will learn how to plan and execute oral and video histories. This course is suitable for many types of history gathering including: 1. Family history for reunions or holidays 2. Community, school, or club histories 3. The Vashon Century Project (A new research project focused on historical Vashon Island as well as its relationship to the region and the Northwest’s first world’s fair in 1909, the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition (AYP). Each student will have the opportunity to start a personal project with guidance from the faculty. Students must provide their own audio and/or video equipment for individual projects. Students are expected to start implementing their projects immediately following the last day of class. Anyone desiring more instruction or faculty assistance in order to complete a project may register for Part II of this course beginning November 3 and running for four sessions. Applications for the Fall 2008 class are being accepted beginning July 1, 2008. Part I Tuition is $150. Partial scholarship assistance is possible. Clock Hours for teachers are available. An Early Bird Special price of $125 is good through August 21, 2008. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.
